It is with great sadness that Team Eve, along with her St. John’s Lombard Family announce that Eve Comfort Dog has ended her service on earth Friday, August 25, 2023. She will be missed beyond measure.
Eve’s chosen Bible verse is 1 Corinthians 1:9 “God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
It was both a privilege and a blessing to witness Eve touch the lives of many in her own community and across the country. Eve was dual-vested as both LCC K-9 Comfort Dog and an LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog. In her nine years, she celebrated the joy and absorbed the grief of many while serving at schools, nursing homes, and community events. Eve and her handlers solemnly offered comfort at funerals, mass shootings, and natural disasters. Her deployments include Baton Rouge LA, Las Vegas NV and countless states for First Responder funerals - ministering to broken hearts in the aftermath of humanity’s worst.
When off duty, Eve’s tail wagged the most when spending time with her team. She loved long walks, running zoomies in her yard, chewing bones and cuddling with her caregivers.
Despite our grief, we give praise and thanks for the time we had with Eve. What a blessing that God had a plan for Eve! She opened doors for her handlers to be the hands and feet of Jesus! Our tiny dog exemplified her mission in a very big way - spreading mercy, compassion, presence and proclamation to those suffering and in need.
Even in our sorrow, we hold strong to this truth:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
