Membership Process
St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lombard, IL
Membership defined—a church member is one who believes in the triune God, has been baptized, instructed in the faith (LCMS), and engages actively in congregational life.
Active Membership includes regular worship with Holy Communion, study of the Word, participation in the community life of the church, sharing of talents and financial giving, and willingness to be held accountable for Christian life/doctrine.
What we have learned—Generally, it takes approximately 6-8 months for people to demonstrate commitment to active membership. This reduces ‘back-door’ losses.
EXPECTATIONS:
If transferring from another LCMS church:
If no Lutheran background or non-LCMS background:
Mentoring (occurs either during or after Seekers 101 class)—an existing member/couple initiates a friendship through which they offer fellowship, answers to questions, and information for the prospective member.
School Tuition--member tuition rate will take effect the semester after the above process is completed and membership is established.
