O.W.L.S. (Older, Wiser, Lutheran Seniors)

In addition to going out to lunch (always a favorite) and attending plays or musical events, many of our O.W.L.S. participate in one or more of the following service activities:

  • Serve weekly as mentors to students at St. John’s school
  • assist with weekly worship services at senior residential care facilities (known as the Faith, Hope and Peace Ministries)
  • Restock the pew racks in the sanctuary
  • Stuff weekly worship service bulletins and mailings
  • Provide transportation and visit the homebound
  • Serve as tutors at Schafer School, Lombard as part of Marla’s Project Tutor
(initiated by Marla Fitzgerald and now coordinated by her mom, Marilyn Fawell

“Serve the Lord with gladness.” — Psalm 100:2

Exercise with Marirose Thursdays at 9 a.m. (9:30 in summer)

All seniors are welcome to join this exercise class designed especially for you! This sitting and standing workout exercises all the major muscle groups to help you feel stronger and more flexible. Chairs provide safety, and there is no floor work. The class is taught by Marirose Meimers, a certified personal trainer and certified Pilates instructor.

Any ideas for seniors’ ministry here at St. John’s and in the community are always welcome.
