St. John’s Artist Series Features Cowboy Rick Pickren

The ninth season of Artist Series presentations at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lombard,

continues Sunday, November 15, at 3:00 p.m. with Cowboy Rick Pickren presenting “Songs

of the Singing Cowboys.” Listen to some of Rick’s songs HERE.


rick-pickrenA descendant of Buffalo Bill Cody and a two time winner of the Marlboro Country Music Tour

Contest, singer-songwriter-actor Pickren and his trio will take listeners back to the glory days of

radio and old-time western movies, featuring familiar melodies such as Gene Autry’s “Back In

The Saddle,” Roy Roger’s “Tumblin’ Tumbleweeds,” Tex Ritter’s “High Noon,” Rex Allen’s “The

Red River Valley,” Frankie Laine’s “Rawhide,” among others. Pickren is a graduate of the

University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Music degree and an MFA in Theater.  He has shared

the stage with George Strait, Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton, The Judds, B.J. Thomas, and cowboy

poet Waddie Mitchell.


An informal reception with light refreshments will follow the concert, during which the

distinctive watercolor and acrylic paintings, as well as the poetry, of Glen Ellyn resident Marilyn

Peretti will be on display and available for purchase.


The public is cordially invited to attend the Pickren event and the reception.  As always, no tickets will be

sold for the program; a free-will offering will be received.
