For over ten years, UKANDU has been building relationships with inner-city Chicago ministries through Chicagoland Lutheran Educational Foundation [CLEF], United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Chicago [UCP], and multiple individual ministries. The partnership with these organizations, churches, and schools has opened up doors for more ministry possibilities and given us new connections each year. Our faith family continues to grow in Chicago and we truly feel called to keep our efforts focused where relationships are being built!
WHY UKANDU CHICAGO?
Our overall desire and purpose is:
- Encourage our brothers and sisters in the ministry
- Connect members of the communities in which we serve to a local ministry
- Involve our own congregations
- Grow spiritually
Participants can expect to serve alongside 200 other people from a variety of churches to bring the love of Jesus to the people of inner city Chicago. While on the trip, participants will participate in powerful worship experiences, eat marvelous food, and share many fun experiences along with the work they do.
Registration fees The UKANDU Chicago registration fee is $250, which includes all meals for the event (beginning Sunday evening through Saturday morning), all programming costs and materials, a group fun event, and a t-shirt.
What we will do Work sites could include houses, churches, schools, or buildings belonging to other Christian ministries. At those sites, participants can expect to do painting, landscaping, construction, lead Vacation Bible School programs, or work with organizations that provide necessities to those unable to afford them. While UKANDU has had a long partnership with some of the sites we serve, God presents new opportunities each year.
Work teams Youth and adults will be assigned work teams based on their work preferences specified on the registration form. More than likely, group members will not serve with participants from their own congregation. Requests for participants to be assigned together will be honored whenever possible. In addition, participants will be assigned to their first choice of work project as project availability allows. God has worked mightily through team assignments in the past and He will continue to do so.
