marla’s Project Tutor

marla's PROJECT TUTOR (MPT) is a community outreach initiative for our local community. The goal of MPT is to help provide free educational assistance for children who may need extra help in their school day.

Volunteers from St. John’s commit 1 ½ hours each week to work with students with a minimal background in readiness skills in reading and math.  No teaching experience is necessary, only a desire to help make a difference in the lives of children. Each volunteer is assigned to a classroom for the school year and becomes a part of the educational ‘team’. Volunteers help a child in a 1:1 setting or in a small group setting.

Currently we volunteer at Schafer School in Lombard, a pre school through 5th grade school. Volunteers may choose to work with regular or special education students.

Helping children and making a difference is a great opportunity to demonstrate God’s love for all and is gratifying for the volunteers… it’s a good feeling to make a difference. Please consider this a great opportunity to help children.
