“40 Day Challenge”

lentLent is an opportunity. It’s a window of time when our resolve is heightened. We tend to be ready for a challenge, like giving up something we love (chocolate, coffee, exercise 🙂 ). But, why? Historically, lent has been a time to draw near to Jesus—to think deeply about his suffering and death and why we need it.

What will you do with your 40 days of lent? My challenge is for you to join me on a 40-day journey of drawing closer to Jesus by engaging with the disciplines of his passion: prayer, devotion, stillness, community, crucifixion of self, at 6:30pm each Wednesday.

At St John’s, our NEW Wednesday worship design (after Ash Wednesday) will be 30 minutes of reflective time with the Scriptures, acoustic music (praise team members), prayer, and conversation around one of the practices above. We’re calling this service “Inward and Upward.”  It’s a way to experience new community through a time-honored season, lent.

We’re excited about what we think will be a midweek boost for your faith.  See you Wednesday starting at 5:30pm for a fellowship meal, followed by service at 6:30pm!

For the Word of God is active and alive.
